灯笼(Chinese lanterns )

   First Chinese lanterns were invented in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 AD-220 AD) and used as lamps and for the worship of the Buddha. Later, lanterns became widely known,especially during the time of festivals. In the Tang Dynasty (618 AD-907 AD) lanterns were used for festivities to show that the country was prosperous and the people were living in peace.

  Today,in cities and rural areas, you can see lanterns adorning street lights, public buildings, shops, etc. Many families also hang lanterns on their windows, especially during festival seasons.

    The Lantern Festival is one of the best days to view Chinese lanterns. Solving lantern riddes is one of the most interesting activities of the Lantern Festival. The lantern show is an attractive activity around the day of the Lantern Festival in many cities.

   The most common Chinese lanterns are red, oval/round,decorated with red or golden tassels. They also come in many different shapes,including cubes,cuboids, and cylinders.

  Red lanterns are symbols of wealth, fame, and prosperity. They are used to celebrate occasions of joy and harmony, such as weddings, a grand opening, family reunions, as well as the celebration of some festivals.
